AKIRA YAMADA/Photographer

Born and raised in Kawasaki City, Japan, Akira studied fashion design at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo.


In 1998, Akira brought his creative passion to New York City, where he found success as a high-end floral designer. After six years of making beautiful arrangements for boutiques, restaurants, and private parties, in 2004 Akira's artistic energy found a new focus: photography.

Akira's portraits and reportage have appeared in Japanese Vogue, Chinese Vogue, Madame Figaro, Harpers Bazaar Japan, Women's Wear Daily Japan, Casa Brutus, Mens Non no, Ginza and Popeye.

Akira shoots portraits and lookbooks, and has worked for fashion houses including Derek Lam, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and TOD'S.

Formally trained in fashion and design, Akira finds beauty in every scene and creates his images with sophistication.

Akira travels the world to document, explore, and gain inspiration from other cultures.
